Default Re: 1970 aluminum slotted wheel questions

I cannot contact the family and Rug the original owner is deceased. I am going to have to say whitetop has presented strong evidence they were Appliance. I will be going out to a wheel shop next week and attending the pomona swap meet in search of a nice set of wheels. My only goal now is to make sure I qualify for a day two by getting the correct era vintage wheels.

Lee,

If Pomona does not produce a set of wheels, I have these 14x7 Ansens up here in Santa Cruz.

If I entered my Oldsmobile in a day to judging were would I find the rules to make sure the rims qualify for day two. Some of my friends are telling me to buy new rims polished but I don't favor that recommendation.

Lee, the Ansens SupernovaSS has are 100% correct including the metal caps-later caps were plastic.
The new Ansens are shaped wrong. Besides the general look of the wheel, the kidney bean hole is different and they have those concave lug nut pockets. The entire wheel is a carictature of the originals.

Ansens should definitely qualify as day 2 since they were available when the cars were new. I'm not sure who to talk to about judging rules though.

A friend of mine bought a 72 Chevelle brand new once he got home from Vietnam. Within one year he put aluminum slots on it. They were 15x7on the front, 15x8.5 on the rear. I think they were American Racing? Anyways he just asked me to sell them for him this summer as he put the original wheels on his car once it was restored. Unfortunately I just sold them a month ago!

Thanks David, I need 14x7 to be able to install Firestone Wide Ovals like the original owner did in 1970.
