At the local farmers supply store they have a produce called "Fresh Cab". You put in your car & the smell keeps varmints out.It smells like strong Potpourri so not a terrible smell. Used it for couple years & it works good.

One other thing, if you are in the habit of eating anything in the car, make sure that you vacuum ALL the crumbs out. Nothing like food to attract the rodents.
