I HOPE JUDGING VALUES CAN BE REVIEWED FOR THE FUTURE EVENTS FOR ALL CONCERNED.....I FEEL THE NAME BADGE IS REALLY IMPORTANT AS WELL, AND HOPE THEY HAVE THEM FOR THE SCR-10 FOR US FIRST TIMERS.....ALSO BOB A., DO YOU FEEL THAT MAYBE THE SPRING EVENT CAN BE LATER, SO AS TO GETTING BETTER WEATHER CONDITIONS, AND LESS NO-SHOWS ?....KASEY

Kasey...that has a lot to do with what is already booked at the convention center. Most of the time places like that are booked a few years in advance...and you take what you can get...

Since I am not (and really don't want to) be involved in the Judging procedures and policies other then to be sure they are followed, prehaps Dru can shed some light on this?

Do you guys feel the 40 point deduct is too severe?

Help me out here, Dru and any other VF Judges!

Anyway, I will discuss this with Bill Braun, our Judging Supervisor.

Thansk for the feedback.

Tough call. To be honest, it probably wouldn't have caused such a stir if it hadn't been one of our own it affected. I know that's not fair, but we DO tend to be a little over-protective of the good guys here. ALbert is one of those!

Before leaving, a group of us there discussed this, including a couple of judges, and no one felt the 40 point deduct was fair, as it encouraged folks to restamp, which goes against what we are trying to accomplish in our hobby.

Understand falling Fall VF and the discussion on here, Joe Z. had another shop address some issues with his car and was rewarded with a Gold Spinner this past weekend at the Spring show. Congrats...

Bob,
Bill asked me last fall to start working up a revised judging system for the show. I was able to give him 3 "new and improved" versions utilizing a few of the positive aspects used by other shows/organizations. In all three proposals, the points allocated to the engine pad are significantly reduced on a percentage basis of the total. The points allocated to the casting number and date will carry more weight than the pad.
If a decision is made to move forward with the project soon, we probably could have new sheets ready for at least some of the classes, for the fall show.

The way I understand, all is required is for the pad to have the proper code, such MN, MO, etc, and the judges are not really concerned when, how and by whom the code was stamped.

I do not think it would be in the best interest of VF to really check for accurate pad stamps. Talk about opening a can of worms.

I had heard the Corvette folks had adopted the policy of the pad must contain the correct code, promoting restamps, but never gave it much thought until Sunday.

IMO, the wrong code (block) should be a minor deduct, same as any other engine part (intake, carb, etc).

Until then, folks such as Al have two options, 1. restamp, or 2. regardless of how nice their car is, be subjected to an automatic 40 point deduct.

Tom,
NCRS acknowledges the fact that many vintage Corvettes have lost their original engines somewhere in their life and have allocated points to reflect this fact. A 1963-67 Corvette presented for flight judging with a blank pad will lose 50 points (25 for the assembly portion and 25 for the VIN derivitive) out of a total of 4510 (slightly more than 1%) assuming the pad surface has a typical factory finish (broach) and that it uses a correct casting number for the application and an appropriate casting date. I believe the other classes are similiar.
Within the Bloomington Gold guidelines however, the highest award possible with a block that does not have the assembly code and VIN matching the car it is in, would be a Silver Certificate.
I'm not condoning the fact that these policies encourage restamping, just stating what is acceptable to these groups.

Chris, thanks for the information regarding how the Vette guys address this issue.

Good to hear VF is looking at their judging system, at least our side of things. As we learn more and more about how these cars were built, thus how they should be restored, judging criteria should reflect this.

allthough I wasnt there but I have seen Alberts car in person, what more can anyone do other than restamp? That car is top notch in my book and not to award Alberts car a gold and give another without the original motor gold seems very unfair. Why give a gold spinner to a car thats not matching #s and not give one to someone who acually has warranty paperwork ? Too bad the judges really dropped the ball on this one.
