I may be incorrect but I believe the original 69 shields are grey (phosphate) in color and the later are the gold (cadium?). I have had dozens of the gold . They are usually available to find NOS.

Many years ago I bought an NOS jl8 housing and parts that included the correct original backing plates. The seller purchased the parts in 1972 for his 69 Z. They were grey. That was rear, but I believe they were the same coating.

My jl-8 Z also had grey many years ago when I owned it.

Please correct me if I am wrong anyone.
