car is now home and going through paperwork i was able to contact the gentleman who owned it from the early 90's till 03 he claims the 396 in it when he got it was a 2 bolt block but also had no idea what an l78 was either. he took the m21 out in 97 to put a th350 in. He bought it from someone north of baltimore. so the car was in maryland at least from the late 80's till when i bought it just last week. I contacted jim mckay chevrolet which is still in business but got the run around because i'm not buying a new car.

Default searching for info on this l78

I've had good luck with MD Dept of Motor Vehicles. My car was owned by 2 people from MD in the mid 70's, and I got copies of the titles. This was in early 2000, and it was about a 4 month ordeal, but well worth it. The forms may have changed, not sure. I'll try to dig up the forms I used.

That would be awesome thank you. From what I’ve gathered it spent a lot of time in Maryland.
