Default Chrysler 6 CYL Announcement...

It's the "Hurricane" Inline 6 3.0L twin turbo I6.

There will be two variants:

A Standard Output version is expected to produce 400+ hp and 450 lb-ft, and is capable of running on 87 octane but premium is recommended.

A High Output version is expected to produce 500+ hp and 475 lb-ft, and 91 octane is required.

This engine will fit in all of Stellantis's RWD-based models.

There are two red flags:

These engines are direct injection only.

These engines will use PTWA cylinder bore coatings instead of liners. This is likely the design decision that ruined the Gen3 Ford Coyote V8.

She is not pretty, but this engine will keep Chrysler from going into chapter again which sadly appears to be the path for another beloved company.

They really needed a modern motor. I looked at Grand Cherokees and seemed like if you want power you get the hemi and no mileage or a smaller motor with no power

I'm glad I ordered my Challenger Redeye last month. (It just got built yesterday according to SRT hotline update).

I hope they are gonna put two of the new 6 cylinders at both ends of the next Dodge. Then it would be cool. AWD, dual engine!!! That would be 1000 hp and 950 torque. ;-)

The Hemi has been long in need of an update, more so in the 5.7-liter variant.

But I will be sad to see the naturally aspirated V8 completely go away if Chrysler's intent is for this engine to replace the 5.7 and 6.1 in all of the Hemi powered offerings.

I think all automakers are thinking that as long as the HP & Torque numbers are there all the alternates (including electric) will keep the consumer happy. For us traditional types, sad times ahead….

Agreed.

I'm not completely opposed to smaller engines with forced induction, I love the Cadillac line of twin turbocharged V6 engines.

Although, driving several examples of the Buick Encore GX with the turbocharged 1.3-liter 3-cylinder makes me long for the days of the Series II 3800.
