Congratulations Scott. NC has the best records ever, I've got complete title histories on three different cars sold new there and all three went back to the MSO. If I remember correctly is was really cheap too, $10-15 tops.

A little known fact is the HP on the MSO showing 57.8 conclusively establishes this car as a factory equipped 427. It relates only to engine displacement and not which particular 427. The formula is "Diameter squared times number of cylinders divided by 2.5 so using 4.25" bore size on a 427 engine yields 57.8
Some discrepancies have surfaced, but generally this is a reliable indicator of original engine displacement for a particular car. This number is sometimes shown on the title in some states and often referred to as "Taxable HP". Congrats Scott another piece of the documentation. Last edited by COPO; 02-27-2019 at 05:28 PM. |

Thanks its just another feather in its hat,its no doubt a real 427/435 car not just by the untouched indicators on the car itself but i have spoken with the 2nd owner who purchased the car in 1968 and he confirmed indeed its one of the real ones.....and maybe one of the rare rare ones???

I used that # years ago to help determine it was a 427 Copo Camaro. I had an MSO from a 350, 396 camaro and the COPO was higher than both of those, so I deduced that is was a 427, among other things. Now I have the formula to prove it !!! Thanks....

Funny, my 69 Charger was sold new in Charlotte, and when I sent in for my titles I just got the one from the guy I bought it from and one from his Dad. The car may had been titled in SC right after it was purchased. Would that had mattered?

Did you use NCDMV form MV-605A to get the titles. If it went to SC and back to NC the DMV would have a copy of the SC title too.

On the rare few times I was able to get a physical NICB report there is a line for horsepower. Neither time was that field populated though.
