Default Muncie case repair

Has anyone ever seen factory case repairs like this before? It was done before the case was machined. This is a 661 case. There are a few other spots that look like they had a little touch up.

What would this transmission have come out of? I've had it so long that I can't remember what the owner told me he took it out of. I think he said it was a Trans Am, but it was too long ago for me to be sure.

I’ve seen quite a few repairs like that in Corvette cases too. Maybe slag when it came off the mold, and they simply tig welded it to make sure no sealing issues before machining.
It’s a 1972 era Muncie and pretty sure the 22 in vin stamp means 1972/Firebird .

Pontiac plant code. Probably a GTO or Lemans.

YES, it's a 72 Model Year Trans built on NOV 9 1971.

AND yes I have seen repairs of the sort on survivor Corvettes.
