Default Door Hinge Alternatives

A friend needs some hinges rebuilt or replaced. Do the DIY kits work? Are the repos any good? Is there someone out there that does a good job rebuilding them?

I put new bushings and pins in mine. Pretty easy job. If the bushings are worn all the way through and the hole in the hinge is also worn then the hole can be welded and drilled. I've also done that.
