RARE CRANE “FIREBALL” Super Port Flow BBC Heads
A little background on these cylinder heads. These heads were ported by Charlie Kulp. Who was Charlie Kulp? Charlie was married to Harvey Crane’s daughter (Crane Cams). He went to work for Harvey porting cylinder heads.
Later in life he worked here in New Jersey porting for Pat Musi. He passed away about four years ago. In between he ported heads for some of the best racers in all forms of motorsports. Remember when American Motors went factory super stock Racing with the AMX in SS/C, the cars had ported heads from the factory. Charlie was the one who ported them. Years later when asking him about it he would say “I would look up from grinding and see pallets and pallets and pallets of heads! These heads are casting #3873858 dated B-25-6 and D-2-6 are so nice they can pass for NEW! You could use these heads on a stock looking 66 big block Vette or 375 hp Chevelle for some fun. Or that newer drag class: Factory Appearing Small Tire. In fact, if you can get a hold of the must read book by Marty Schorr: MOTION PERFORMANCE Tales of a muscle car builder, you will see Joel Rosen would use CRANE FIREBALL cylinder heads on many of his builds. If you are fortunate enough to own a Big Block Motion car adding these highly sought after heads would not only add authenticity and value, imagine the performance! These casting with high compression and long cam will support 700HP Ready to go, New Manley high-performance swirl polished valves,New valve seals, New machined valve keepers, New steel valve retainers, New valve springs(for small roller)and new ARP rocker studs. Though I never met him I would like to thank Jon Mello for posting terrific information on speed and performance parts and equipment on the CRG website, click on link below: http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=8984.0 ••••SOLD•••• Prefer local pick up, will box and ship, buyer to pay for shipping and insurance to the lower 48 PayPal friends and family Last edited by RobR; 08-13-2020 at 02:24 AM. |

Those are mighty cool Rob. Wish I had a big block to mount those up on.

Rob, you are the man. Always in the thick of things back in the day with that NJ-NY Group. Good info on your part. We gotta do lunch and do some more bench racing.

Here is some info messaged to me from member: rszmjt
Who raced in Div.6 and worked in a speed shop back when these heads came out. He still races today and is flying! 7.50’s @ 180mph. With a small block and a 5 gear Lenco. That’s got to be a fun ride Mike! FWIW - Your heads are “Superflow” heads , the fireballs we’re a street version with way less preparation , and weren’t released till about 1975? fireballs were just rough ported and had no polishing or blending in ports and under valve seats. They were also stamped “fireball” Reason I believe this is I worked at a local speed shop in Calgary Ab in 1972/73 and I ordered a set of “Superflow” small block heads which I ran for years on my S/G Vega . We also sold at least 8-10 sets of “Fireball” heads which were way less $ so local street racers could afford them. “Superflow” heads were the Cadillac of Crane heads and way more $$$$. Those heads are yours are Awesome shape and IMO worth every $ your asking. Cheers. Mike |

My father had crane heads cam combo along with a high rise aluminum intake and holley all recommended by CRANE in Florida - all on his new 67 RS Camaro 327 275 4spd 3.73 - then back in 1968, car got broken into while he was out on Navy Drills in Charleston and they stole his 970 SW Custom tach 2-5/8 3 gauge panel, shifter T handle, and the center caps off of the Torque Thrusts.... he got pissed and drove directly to Greenville and traded it to the Olds dealer for a new 68 442 white over blue auto air SS1's (which I came home from the hospital in as a baby)
The service manager called my dad and asked if it had a Z28 engine in it or something because it ran better than any 327 he had ever driven... he told him about the top end heads and cam... the guy stripped all the parts from it and set it back stock, Dad still talks about how strong the combo was.

NEW PRICE! ••••SOLD••••
These Crane cylinder heads are and amazing find. I advertise these heads in as new condition, however, I showed some engine builders and they believe they are Never used New Old Stock based on how clean the water jackets are and lack of witness marks on the head bolt bosses and assembled with new modern components, Manley swirl polished valves, ARP rocker studs, Viton seals etc. Last edited by RobR; 08-13-2020 at 02:28 AM. |

RARE CRANE "FIREBALL" Super Port Flow BBC Heads
Rob: A little off the subject, I noticed on Pg.77 of the 1969 Crane Catalog under Oval Track Racing the name of Gary Myles. Gary owned Myles Engineering machine shop in our area, W.150th & Lorain Ave. in Cleveland, Ohio where we took our engines to be machined & blueprinted. He retired and sold his business to Ray Banyas who had worked for Gary for years renaming it Victory Engines. It is still in business today.Originally before going out on his own, Gary was partners with Sam Gellner at Gellner Machine shop. Thanks Rob, Don.
