Default '65 Mustang Convertible...the incredible preservation of Southwestern cars

I wanted to share this '65 Mustang, a lifelong Phoenix car, as an example of how incredible the desert is for preserving vintage sheetmetal. I bought my '70 SS396 Chevelle in similar condition...dry as a bone, rock-hard upholstery but a pristine, rust-free body.

As I've been back in the Midwest for almost 20 years, I rarely see cars this clean anymore.

----This Mustang is for sale by a good friend of mine, Bob Adams. Bob is an absolutely stand up guy and really well known in Arizona car circles. I've known Bob and his father Bob (senior) since I moved to Chicago in 1976. Father and son are two of the most ethical people I have ever known. Feel safe if you have interest in this Mustang with anything Bob says.....Bill S

Bill, are those the same Bob Adamses that had the vintage car place alongside I-94 near Kenosha WI years ago?

I'd say someone got their money's worth out of the tires that are on the car

----Yup, Bill! Went up there often. Bob senior had such a cool dealership. He had a hidden office that not many people knew about. Bob senior for years was one of the top vintage car guys in the country. He also had a hell of a Christmas party at the dealer every year.....Bill S

Is the plate over the trans tunnel factory, or did someone fabricate it? They have a similar X brace on the first gen Camaro verts, but this one looks like a solid piece of plate steel that someone slapped on there. Interesting.

The auction ended @ $25k. Surely, it went for more than this? Interested in selling price if known?

The first gen Mustangs just don't bring a lot of money and in it's rough condition, the 25k was fair. Yes, it is rust free and that is rare in the rust belt, but for the market in the southwest, that's about all it was going to fetch. I believe that was the B-I-N price and someone in the Midwest should have jumped on it.

As for the reinforcement plate under the tunnel, that does look original, but may have been deleted on later years, as unnecessary ? The floor pan is made for that plate. I don't recall seeing them on the newer converts I've worked on.
