Distributor differences??
I recently picked up a 70 Chevelle SS396 project.
It was pretty complete and unmolested when pulled from behind a barn @12 years ago, in that time it has changed hands at least 3 times, been disassembled and various parts of restoration started. Seems the distributor was pulled prior to pulling the engine,(I assume to protect it from damage) incorrect distributor put in its place (I assumed to keep dirt out of engine) Original 1112000 is MIA. I have a number of 1111999's. What is the difference between them?

Re: Distributor differences??
According to Colvin's book they both use the same vacuum advance...my guess there is probably no real functional difference. All the "2000" distributors I have are stamped with "355" and "15" on VA unit.

Re: Distributor differences??
Thanks Tom.
Maybe different springs for the centrifugal advance? If no real difference, why bother with multiple stampings. Matt, car was built 02/06/70, care to check the dates on yours for something close? Thanks,

Re: Distributor differences??
The cam that the points ride on is different between those 2 distributors. Martin
