Default 69 vs 70 Z's

69 302/290 horse vs 70 350/360 horse... which was quicker?

Found an old pic (~20 years ago) and got to thinking...

I have a 69, and love the 69's, but the 70 is quicker. Also handles a little better.

Kool Picture Mark!!
I would have to give the 70 Z a slight advantage over a 69…

Agree with the above. On the track, #s vs #s, the 70 was quicker and better handling.

Theyre two different animals.

That Photo was taken back in 1984. Marks 69 has a 4.56 Ratio. You outta feel it pull, it puts the 302 right in the powerband and keeps it there. I recall throwing fan belts off of this animal 15 years ago-that is how fast it rev's up. Having driven both of these specific cars I would have to give the nod easy to the 69 on acceleration, the 70 on the top end simply due to the gearing.

I have kept track of the RS Z over the years. Here is a more recent photo of this fantistic 69....

Hey Mark- was it Doogie that put 4.88's in his 70 Z0 Z28 and tried to go to Florida in it?

The 70 Z in the picture belongs to Phil Borris, so see we know that he at least drove it one time The picture was taken before Phil Restored the car and as you can see it was already very nice to start with. Hey Phil the guy that you were talking about his name was Dungy. He bought a '70 Z brand new and put 4:88's in it and tried to drive it to Florida, he made it about 2 hours and Blew it Up.

Yea that is right, the guy put the 4.88's in the car and made it to right around Columbus Ohio where the LT-1 and the 70 MPH speed limit on I-71 took its toll.

Great Story... What was he thinking?? What happened to the car?
