Wow, one of 34 big blocks, and he has 2 of them. Must have been one of 34 built on one particular day or one of 34 with a rear window defogger or some such rare option.

25 percent of all SS's were big blocks, all Z11's were SS's (obviously) so if the distribution is the same that means theres about 950 big block pace cars out there somewhere. Even if you took the 6 percent of all camaros (including 6 cyls) were big blocks you end up with an number around 250 big blocks.

You hear that "34" number a lot because people dont check their sources. There was a time years ago when 34 were known to exist and of course people heard the 34 part and not the rest of the sentence. No-one knows the exact number built but it is a lot more than 34. My conservative guess is 10% of 3675 or just about 367-1/2, Big Block Z11s.

I just dug up the ebay auction. He quotes an old Camaro Club website from years ago. Also his car is an 04C late April-built car. This is too late for an actual Festival car. Just about all the festival/public relations cars were built in last week of February, (02D) and early March. They were all shipped to the Indianapolis Zone Office and prepped there for use at the track. Remember, Indy 500 preparation begins in late winter. Not 3 weeks before the actual race (04C) In addition, about 120 known VINS and drivetrain descriptions exist from a Doctor who wrote them down in 1969 and about 95% of them are small block automatics. Remember these were parade cars used for beauty queens and dignitaries, no four speeds allowed, someone could have spilled their Mint Julip! Oh and by the way did you notice that all of his photos can be enlarged except for the documents and protect-o-plate

I remember this car now, it's been on Ebay 2, maybe 3 times before this, its the one with the D96 fender stripes upside down. The large stripe is above the narrow one, instead of the proper way. He's got a bunch of photos here:

http://home.stny.rr.com//indianapolispace/

Heres the shipper copy (how come people can't take infocus pictures?)Can't even read the VIN and it's twice the size of the rest of the text.

Ebay ad also says front shoulder belts, but theres no sign of them in any photo.

It is a nice looking car, everything lines up, paint is great, guess it isn't 80K nice though.

Looks like the VIN is 124679N620027. Too high for a car at the track. I think the highest serial number on the festival list is a 617xxx number. The two actual pace cars were 609xxx I believe. I have the actual VIN list somewhere in my files. My Z11 Washington DC Zone Office press car is a 610xxx VIN, built 02D, first week of production and shipped from Norwood on March 9, 1969.

Can't be N620037 thats a mid to late March VIN, the trim tag on this car is 04C. Might be N629037 or N629937 both would fit an 04C car.
