LT-1 Torque Info

I thought that I had all of the information about my '70 Deuce until I thought about the engine torque. I know the LT-1 is rated at 360HP but what rating did Gm use for the torque? Thoughts anyone?

I've always felt that engine HP/Torque ratings were over exaggerated somewhat back then.
According to a GM Confidential 1970 Chevrolet Engine Power Curves Test Report done on March 16,1970 by Chevrolet in Warren Mich.,the LT-1 350/360,11/1 Comp. engine had a Maximum GROSS rating Torque of 379 @ 4000RPM,and a GROSS rating 359HP @ 6000RPM.
1970 NET ratings were Maximum Torque of 325 @ 4000RPM & 295HP @ 5000RPM.

The 1971 LT-1 11/1 Comp.engine figures showed a NET of 275HP @ 5000RPM,with Maximum Torque of 300 @4000RPM,but it never saw production.

I agree with Rick, the factory ratings were sketchy at best. The real horsepower and torque numbers are obtained from a timeslip and a Moroso sliderule. When Neal was running Frankie's deuce, the HP was a realistic 290

Straight from the factories, most cars were not all that impressive. With emission controls, the engines came with very lean primary jetting, and a very slow advance curve that might be all in by 5K rpm. To get the numbers that GM put out, the engine was probably on an engine dyno with dyno headers and tuned for performance. I have a magazine road test of a '70 L34 Chevelle that turned a best of 15.1 seconds in the quarter. Hardly 350 hp working there. L88 engines at 430 hp might have actually been not all that far off as the engine came installed in the Vette. Tune it and give it open headers and the difference was huge. The quarter mile is the only true power test.
