Default Help Picking New Goodyear Tires

Hey Guys

I'm going to replace the F70/14 Firestone Wide Oval ( they are old) tires on my 69 RS/SS Camaro with a set of Goodyear PloyGlas. I have attached a couple of pics of Goodyear Ployglas tires....The build date on my Camaro is the 4th week of March 69 so I believe it's original tire was the Firestone Wide Oval that is not made anymore. The Firestone that is offered today is close but not the original tire back in 69. I can't put the perfect period correct tire so I think I going to go with a set of Goodyears. The question is which one? CB5KL or the CB5KJ ? Or maybe you guys can suggest another Goodyear. I believe the CB5KL is the closet to being period correct but i kinda like the the looks of the CB5KJ....If you have the time, give me your thoughts....Thanks

Neither. Good Year "F70-14 Wide Tread" is what you want. NOT Polyglas. CBK37

This will be a future purchase for me too!

I had always thought no Polyglass versions were installed on any 1st gen. But hitting the link for the Speedway tires, it has this note:

1st Generation Camaro Note only – Read Carefully

14” Goodyear Tire Fitments

Goodyear Polyglas tires were first used and going forward in April of 1969. For Goodyear RWL fitments for vehicle build dates beginning in April 1969 thru October 1969 use Goodyear Polyglas SKU# CB5KL. November thru December of 1969, a running change was in place with Goodyear Polyglas installations. Thus either the CB5KL or CB5KJ may be used. As you see, this is encompassing the first half of the 1970 build year. Prior usage from 1967 thru March of 1969 was the Goodyear Speedway Wide Tread series.

Is this accurate? I have a June 69 SS

Default Goodyear "F70-14 Wide Tread"

So, from everything that I have read it looks like because my car has a build date of March of 69 I should be seriously looking at the Goodyear "F70-14 Wide Tread"........

If you plan to have it judged, then pursuing the correct tire for the build date is necessary. If you just want "period correct" new tires, buy what you like. I highly doubt many people are going to walk up to your car, look at the trim tag and exclaim you have the wrong tires for the timeline of build.

I would say F70-14 Wide Treads would be the best choice for a “correct” tire on a 69 SS Camaro regardless of build date. There’s only ever been like 1 car believed to had Polyglas tires and even it was questionable.

You could also order a striped tire without the raised letters. Almost 50% of the 1969 Camaros left the factory with some sort of pinstriped or white wall tire....Joe

Do not get Polyglas no matter what Kelsey tells you. There are no documented Polyglas tires on 69 Camaro's. Get what Camarojoe posted.
