Default insane body shop quote

went to a local body shop for a quote to finish sanding/blend my new grump lump scoop onto my L88 hood.now this quote is from the manager of the shop that knows my best friend.okay they want $900.00 to do all the prep work like sanding and filling in areas then paint it 3 coats flat black primer with color sanding in between coats.now since the manager is real good friend of our race team owner he'll drop the price to $500.00 is that quote still high or what ??.the body shop quoted 12-15 hours worth of sanding and blending. man i wish my shoulder was better i would continue to do this myself but unable to do so.

Make sure it's not 12-15 hours of work spread over several months...

Factor in the cost of materials which where probably figured in the price. Fiberglass materials, resins, sandpaper, primer, cleaners, etc are not cheap today even at bodyshop cost.

Are you sure you want to go with flat black??? eeaaah. Paint it body color in my conservative HUMBLE opinion. You will always get tired answering the questions "when are you going to paint the hood"?

Since its a old school day 2 car, leave it alone. Run it as is. Through the years, I've seen plenty of rough, primered, well worn cars that spanked the pretty ones.

Put the saved money toward something that will make the car go quicker

Sounds fair to me, the materials are not cheap - even for a privateer!

We can identify with the waiting. The body of our car has been in a shop for 1 1/2 years with no progress. He does good work but the wait.....
