My take on these cars is they look like someone took an original car, put a cage in it, aftermarket gauges and belts. That being said, I realize that 90% of the mods you can't see. But they look amazingly stock-much more so than the average 60's or 70's car at a bracket race running much slower! I have never had a problem looking at every square inch of these cars, but like almost any racer they won't give away all they know. As a matter of fact, the other thing thats so cool about these cars,as well as the pure stocks, is it's a car show at a drag race!

Ken actually made a few minor suspension mods before he hit the new number, they helped. No traction control, fully treaded tires, 1.60's for 60' times, and one of the 2 best looking cars in the class.

Small world.

My boys and I just crated up our 302 engine and sent to Mc Neish's CHP after watching video and performance of their '67 Z28 stocker and talking to them in great detail about performance resto engine rebuilds. After talking to them, also found out that they also are doing engine work for Ken Veit too! Now I know that I sent our Z28 engine to the right place! Thanks for the tips here.

That's about 725 HP. Good Tilburg 396 makes about 575 HP. I'd like to dress up John Armstrong's SS/AA Corvette 427 in the FAST class and stick it in that car. I'm sure the ET and MPH would be off the charts. Especially the MPH.

Don't forget these motors have to hide their aggressive camshafts. They must sound stock. Don't forget that the SS/AA motors are a free for all with open exhaust. The motor must keep a soft bottom end to work with the tires. It's pretty cool as I'm sure you've seen the videos of these cars in action..?

CHP has all the engine data for both applications but does not want to share with his customer base. I understand that. After talking to Fred Tiebolt, Armstrong's engine is making over 800 big ones! He also has the bragging rights in NHRA and all of Super Stock Eliminator as the first non Mopar Super Stock car ('69 Camaro) in the eight second zone. 8.88 @147 MPH. That will never change and is a tribute to just how brillant he is.

I wonder if Armstrong is making closer to 900 hp than 800. Seems like he ran 8.60's in elims. at the Dutch last fall. Does anyone know how much his car weighs in comparision to the SS/AH hemis? I think it's heavier. If it is, I wonder what his Corvette would run at equal weight and an intake (tunnel ram) with two carbs like the hemis.

Everytime Armstrong went fast, NHRA hit his engine combination with HP meaning he has to add weight to the car. The Mopar guys did not want him in the elite Hemi club. When he went 8.88 with the Camaro, he got hit with HP. And at that time, he was only about a 10th or two behind the hemi cars.....and heavier than the cudas. Cudas and Darts have to weigh 3170 last time I checked. Think he has to be 3300 lbs with the Vette now.

770 BEFORE tearing down. Wow! Would love to see what he'll get after the rebuild and tune!
