Default Grease cleaning

Anyone have a idea how to clean old painted parts and especially engine castings without 1]removing any of the old orange paint 2]scratching the surface and 3] easiest to do wo alot of scrubbing. WD40 works quite well with alot of elbow grease ,kerosene probably would work ok,but want something that will do more to clean without rubbing or scrubbing since the grease is caked on ..cannot use a wire brush or steel wool
