A 1955 Mercedes 300SL was of the many eye-catching builds on display. The Gullwing widebody is built on a modern Tesla Model 3 chassis, which was modified to fit the slim profile of the classic 300 SL. All the Model 3 systems from the original car work, including the sensor cameras, parking sensors, self-driving features, infotainment screen, and climate controls.

This would be inside Plant 16 at the PMD facility in Pontiac Michigan. Plant 16 is where the final prep and cleanup would take place before shipping.

I always loved these photos. Here you see an older gentleman plying his trade - probably a coveted job earned by his high senority. Compare his age to the young men throwing front bumpers around or wrestling engines and bodies into position in other photos.

I thought he looked like somebody's grandpa. Now I'm probably older than he was at the time of the photo.

Still quite a bit of variation, even with the Buegler tool, especially in the way the stripes are terminated at the rear end cap, or differences in the way the fender and door gaps were accomplished (some plants the gaps were taped; others they were not).
