Default 1964-1967 El Camino

Posting this for a friend. He is a younger guy, fire fighter, and looking to buy his first “classic car”. I’ve talked him through it and he just wants to get into the hobby. I’ve looked at 2 el caminos for them and they were rust/bondo buckets I had to talk him out of. He’s looking for a nice driver. Does not have to be show quality for the price range obviously. Preferably as solid as possible. Budget is $15k. Please let me know if you know of any like this. Thank you.

For some reason, El Caminos seem to be on the rise. Yeah, I know, a rising tide raises all boats, but they seem to be appreciating faster than most 60s cars.

Still, I would think a good driver is doable at $15k.

Even though mine is a 68, I much prefer the 66-67 body style, followed by the 64-65.
Your friend has good taste. I bought my 68 because of no/minimal rust. Had a massive PS leak for years, so the entire underside is covered in oil.

Local ads and CL seem to be the only places you can find a bargain. Almost all on ebay are way overpriced.

Just looked and got to say, this one looks promising. In Goodland KS.

I do NOT know the seller. Guessing he would take 15K cash.

Red w/ black interior.
Looks pretty unmolested.

I spent a couple of weeks in Goodland KS cutting wheat in the summer of 73 to pay for the next semester of college.

Thank for the responses. Both I looked at for him were off craigslist. Its unfortunate how dishonest guys are with their descriptions. Have a few hours driving to look at one with bondo spread in the door jamb, not even sanded down and rust issues in the frame. The other one the guy told me it had a little rust on the roof. Literally every panel had paint bubbling up and horribly patched floors. Both were closer to $10k. His all in with shipping is $15k. Red one looks ok. Will see if he is willing to provide pictures of the rust, frame and floors. I parted out close to 5 El Caminos when building my Chevelle 20 years ago. Times have changed! I would love to have a 59 myself.

I know what you mean. Ten years ago, I drove 75 miles to see an early 80s El Camino for one of our kiddos. I specifically asked if the CCC was still on it, and also asked that if it had been updated, did they do away with all the computer controls. I was assured it was all still factory. Also asked about rust. Again, assured it was "rust free". I guess he meant "free rust".

Looked under the hood and it had an Edelbrock carb. Obviously not computer controlled. Still had the original distributor in it. That won't work.

Opened the driver's door, and could see through a part of the floor to the pavement below. What a waste.

If it were in OKC, I would offer to go look at it for you.

I have had a couple guys on this site lays eyes on cars that weren't high end enough to merit a plane trip, but still expensive enough I didn't want to buy site unseen with no one looking.

You never know, might be someone close. I just thought that one might merit a second look, as it seems like the guy has had it for a while, and obviously cares for it.

Default Thank you all!

Than you for the help. A craigslist wanted Ad led to the right car. Went down to Oregon and left a deposit for my friend.
