Default Speed Shop Parts - Lengthy Backorders

As many of us have found out over the past year, a lot of what used to be standard off the shelf parts are now seeming to be made of unobtanium? Many parts haven't been stocked in ages. That holds true for tires, wheels, rods, pistons, lifters, transmission gears and the list goes on and on.

Well today I lucked out. Been waiting for someone to get some Goodyear tires in stock, and was also looking for a good set of forged connecting rods. Well I looked online last night and it appeared Jeg's had both items in stock. I called today and the guy on the phone confirmed I snagged the last 4 tires they had back in stock, and I also got one of 3 sets of rods they just got in.

He said he was amazed that I could call in and get 2 of 2 items off the shelf, as that doesn't normally happen anymore. I know many people have put engine and transmission builds off due to parts being back ordered and I'm hoping the supply chain catches up one of these years. It's become agonizing to say the least.

Great to hear Graeme! I thought I did well when I ordered my 4 wheel Wilwoods disc brakes in the spring and only had to wait 6 weeks.

Demand just out paces supply. Our company has produced record numbers of products the last two years. He have had a few component issues, but overall we just struggle to keep pace with sales.

Be interesting to hear what the quality of the rods are.. I’m being really cautious about checking anything I purchased that was made in the past year…

This is not car parts, but my wife and I have had a new cabinet-mounted combination microwave and electric oven on order since January 15th, and the manufacturer (Kitchen Aid) still has no idea if or when it will ever be built. Lucky for us our old one (20 yrs old) is still working.

Two new Peterbilt dump trucks, 11 months out. Our oil supplier can not get shell Rotella 15w-40. They “might” get some in stock in a couple of weeks. I ordered 4 barrels out of a warehouse in New York. Have had a 4” trash pump ordered for 5 months. I guess you could say it’s all screwed up. I did buy toilet paper yesterday.
