Re: Aircraft pics??
Hey cool....love the Bombers too! . I think that B17 pic is "Fuddy Duddy" operational out of Calif? . My favourite is the Lancasters....Canadian eh! . They just spent something like 10 million on a Halifax bomber resto here in Canada and it's not even operational....one motor only fires up as part of the static display. . And we think these cars are a big project to restore! .

Re: Aircraft pics??
One of our sYc members took some time off from showing cars a few years ago to restore an ME-262...talk about rare, but rediculously cool!

Re: Aircraft pics??
Man, what a thread this could be...as I type at my desk at work, I sit here and look at the scale recreation of a B-25J (from Motion Models no less!) I got for my grandfather for Christmas a few years ago...grandma was cleaning out some of his stuff the other day, and asked me if I wanted it...of course I snatched it up, and I was even lucky enough to get *THE* very pocket Bible he was issued when he entered the USAAF...talk about priceless.

Re: Aircraft pics??
Great stuff Rob....congrats on getting your Gramps stuff! . I was lucky to get my Gramps WW1 kit bag as I happened to be there the day my Grandmother was about to toss it. . It's all there....incl. helmet, the issued coins, putties, utensils, letters from Mom....also a journal from day one leaving the mountain farm to sign up right to the last entry when he arrived home closing with something like "I'll get up in the morning happy to milk the cows". . We've sure grown up in some fortunate times!!! .
So who here's involved in the ME-262 project? . I've followed the 262 resto loosely over the past few years....there's I think 3 of them they've been working on and one sold and recently sent back to Germany after test flights and knock-down for shipping. . They've done the 'Yenko conversion' thing swapping the original German 'Jumo' jet engines (that had a lifespan of only hours) for reliable GE J-85 units but otherwise resto of great detail down to paint marks etc. . I know there's a few other 'Warbird' nuts here or 'Stormbirds' as the jets are known. . Like I said earlier, we think these cars are a project! . ~ Pete

Re: Aircraft pics??
I think that 'Fuddy Duddy' B17 was the one depicted in the dramatic but reality painting? . Get your hand on your rip-cord and check this out if it works. .

Re: Aircraft pics??
Redtail P51
One of my favorite airplanes ever and one that I was fortunate enough to have a hand in helping in the original restoration. A friend and fellow enthusiast was killed in this airplane shortly after completion but the airplane is now nearing completion of it's second restoration. Rebuild The P51 will always hold a special place in my memories and are a blast to fly. I flew in "Ho Hun" several years ago and there is just not much like it. Rick |
