Is this thread saying there are only certain known dates that 837 Alternators were mfg
and stamped.........and not just any random 1970 Calendar date ????

My understanding is that they were made in batches and that there is a list on one of the forums of known good dates for '837's.

I would certainly agree to this. I would think that they had to plan in advance as to how many units to produce based on orders and order history. Especially at the end of a particular model, which I think in this case the '837's lasted until 1971, if they were in danger of running out a special run may be scheduled or even other alternators substituted. Isn't the only difference between and '837 and an '834 the deep groove pulley?
