Default WIW - 68 Z/28 Day 2 Garage Find?

Fellas -

The thread about the other 68 Z garage find has me wondering about a car that I know about. It's an original 68 Z, currently black but believe it was Burnished Saddle originally, with black guts. Car is a very low mileage (under 10,000?) original with an LT1 (original engine sitting next to the car), Centerlines, slicks sticking out past the wheelwells, and 5.13 gears, IIRC. Don't think it's been on the road since the 70's or so. It's all there, do not believe it has been cut up at all (may have driveshaft loop installed, but no tubs, cage, etc), and it appears to be 100% rust free. I think I have some pics of it at home that I will have to find.

Car is not officially for sale, but I know the owner fairly well and am thinking about making an offer just to see if he is interested.

I know it's difficult to put a number on it without pics, but any thoughts on value? $30-$35k?

Thanks,

Scott

Judging by your description I would say you are in the ballpark. However, without documentation, the originality of a repainted 68 Z28 will always be in question. Docs would solidify the value.

Good point. What items/castings/markings, etc, are Z/28 specific? Obviously the block, but what else do you look for? The air pressure tag on the inside of the glove box, right?

Thanks,

Scott

Paperwork, paperwork and paperwork for 68Z's - protecto plate, build sheet and any other invoice related info would be the key to ascertain the originality of the car. The mechanical stuff above is helpful when no paperwork is avail - but it does NOT replace the value put on orig paperwork for the car.

Look to see if you can find/see the dates on the trans. and rear. Look at the fuel line and gauges. How long has your friend had the car. Any past owner history. Have Jerry MacNeish come down and look at it BEFORE you spend your money.

Car has been in the family (2 owners) since new, so owner history is not an issue. Have not asked about paperwork, but will before I make an offer.
Thanks,
Scott

get two or three cars line up and it gets cheaper as you can split up the travel expenses.

Resurrecting a 4 year old thread because I came across some pics…Ignore the date; these are from 2009.
