Default Helicopter crash in Arizona last nite

Thanks to those who have expressed concern. It wasn't me or even my company. It was in an area I used to fly over on a near daily basis. Bad place to go down. One survivor so they will have a first hand account of what happened. I would speculate that it was an engine failure due to the fact there is a survivor, and it was likely an autorotation into hostile terrain. Here's a link: Air Methods/Native Air Helicopter Crash in Superstitions

thoughts and prayers for the survivor and the victims families,

Ugh...Sorry to hear this. I know of a couple of people personally that have survived Chopper crashes. One during EMS work and the other during Nam (actually 13 times). I pray everything turns out well for the survivor and all families involved.

It turns out I know the survivor, used to work with him a few years ago at our base that is a few miles from the crash site. Very rough terrain. He's been upgraded to fair condition from critical so should pull thru. Didn't know the other guys but had seen them around over the years.

After seeing pics of the wreckage on the local news yesterday, I'd say Derek is a very lucky medic. And given the sub-freezing temps we've had in that terrain the past few nights, he is fortunate that the emergency responders found him before he had to spend the whole night at the crash site.

Have there been any updates as to what brought the chopper down?

Nothing new according to the TV news or newspaper. If the authorities have been able to talk to the survivor, there's been no report of it. NTSB investigation will take many months.
