Good for him, I'm sure he'll be an asset for them. NHRA/FOX made a mistake cutting him loose from the commentary team if you ask me.

Did they cut him loose or did they have to let him go so he could pursue this new career?

I don't know 100% is the answer. What you suggest has been mentioned but I'm not sure if it's true. I would have thought that most positions with the NHRA and or Fox would probably be a better gig than working with the IHRA?

I think cut loose. NHRA is till trying to compete with the NASCAR market. Loosing battle. Also with today's culturally diverse direction NHRA took on Tony Pedregon to replace and older, wiser more experienced person. But drag racing in general is suffering from several different problems. Future identity is there problem. I am out of racing for now, still have two cars I keep tuned and running.

Dave, I think that will be the general consensus going forward. Mike was a pretty polished performer.

Fox spent a lot of time on the chipmunk cheeked pro stock girl, too many years of her attitude. NHRA is working on a an image problem. It showed in the first race. Easy to pick apart, but not bad. My biggest issue was lack of showing who the winner of each round was. With the popularity of Street Outlaws, they even tried taking shots at them. While I do not agree with street racing, I REALLY have a lot of respect for what they do with there cars. I am immersed in there show and the podcasts are funny and give them an outlet to let there fans know about the real people on the show. Not how they are portrayed. There is a place for all of this. Conversations I have had with my older racer friends are interesting to say the least. They are not happy with NHRAs direction. Check out Class Racer forum for insight. And NASCR is getting in on the action, more competition. You cant make everyone happy. It will take time but I can see it getting better. Yes I loved Mike Dunn as a commentator also. But he is gone, the only constant is change.
