I don't know but I'm sure someone here does. Might be worth a try.

I will say though, as in my case, it's very dependent on who you talk to at the DMV. I had one lady tell me no way no how, they don't do that anymore, only to have another lady call me 7 months later and tell me it's being processed. So for what ever reason, not everyone at the NCDMV is on the same page.

I am glad they finally came though for you. How many years back did they give you? And it may have been brought in from some other state. If this is the case, it is usually noted what state it came from into north carolina.

So cool they came through in the end also good thing you didn't cancel the cheque.
Best of luck backtracking past owner names and looking forward to future updates!

Thanks Resto, was certainly a surprise after all that time passed, but glad they did.

They went back to the original owner, which picked up the car just a few days after the dealer received it, Modern Chevrolet in Winston Salem, NC. He had the car 4 years and traded it back in. A lady bought the car from there and oddly it traded hands a couple of times after that and stayed on the same street with a different box number. The last owner bought the car in 1983 and kept it for 4 years until I purchased the car in 1987. The whole time the car stayed in North Carolina, and in the same town for most of it's early life. When I found the car it was at the Charolotte Auto Fair. I took it back home to Cincinnati where I was living at the time and it proceeded to lead a cushy life. Brought it to Arizona with me when I moved.

Yeah, I was actually shocked I got anything at all and even more surprised the names and addresses weren't blotted out

Yes,I did a NC search too, but had to swear and sign in 3 places that Id never release names or contact the people on the paperwork. I suspect if you tried and got a nasty ex owner who likes his privacy you may have potential legal problems.

I haven't went back to read if that was you that suggested to not cancel the check and let it ride, so if it was I have to say thanks for that

Glad I took that advice and let it ride.
