Tire Restoration
Hi Gents,
Can anyone suggest a product to restore the color lettering on tires? For example - what product is used to restore the blue line and white letters of vintage Goodyear Blue Streak slicks? Thanks, Dan

Re: Tire Restoration
I use Westley's Bleach White on white lettered tires and it does a really nice job. Can be purchased at most Auto Parts stores such as Pep Boys.

Re: Tire Restoration
Not sure what to recommend on the blue line but I have found that ammonia based cleaners don't remove the brown from the rubber compound leaching into the white. I have cleaned white letters and white walls by wet sanding the white with 400 and up wet sandpaper using the tire cleaner as the wetting agent.

Re: Tire Restoration
----If they are Bluestreak "slicks" as stated, the stripes and letters were painted on by Goodyear not imbedded in the rubber. They were spary painted with a mask and as such were rarely anywhere near perfect. I see different paints offered on E-bay to re-letter racing tires but have never tried any of them.......Bill S

Re: Tire Restoration
Good info gents, thanks.
I should have articulated better but Bill got the gist the best. I want to recondition or "repaint" the color in the tire. Look at the set below Brian H did on Jeff's ZL1. This is the like new look I'm trying to achieve. Not concerned with the rubber, just the color.

Re: Tire Restoration
SOS pads work great for cleaning white letters and white walls. You just have to be gentle with the steel wool. Whatever they use for soap in those things works really, really well. As for the colored stripe, I would try some toothpaste and a toothbrush to clean it.
