It was hard to see in the Pic, but if the 'mod' was leaf spring clamps. Yes. I used a combo of Home made copies of these offered by Mr. Gasket via the big box speed parts houses.

My 68 Would wheel hop the Bias-ply Firestones (Spring wined up) at the end of my dry burnout pior to stagging. I installed these and the hop is gone and they are hidden and an easy bolt on and off as required.

Yeah, that is a very effective method (and cheap!) of controlling "axle-tramp" on a leaf spring car. It can make for a slightly stiffer ride because you are effectively stiffening the front leaf spring segment but who cares.......get a Cadillac if you want comfort! Anyway, I've always fabricated my own though because I like the idea of directly tapping the upper strap with 3/8-16 threads so that once you get both bolts started a thread or two, you can then tighten them both up with a ratchet without having to fumble around with loose nuts and a wrench on top. Heck, on my last '55 Chevy C/Gasser, I think I had either 4 or 5 on each side. I've seen several 11-second cars get by with these clamps that don't even have traction bars.

They work pretty good (not quite as good as a good set of traction bars unless you run a bunch of the Harrell clamps) I run 2 pairs a side on my Nova and the axel/leafs will wind up a bit, but almost no axel hop. JS

Thanks to the replys. Thats what I was looking for. Maybe something that works without adding traction bars.

You can also build your own "Super-Stock" style springs if you wanted to. The how to could be its own thread.

make sure you put a piece of 1/4- 1/3" bar stock on top of the leaf springs (equal width to the leafs)and clamp it on top of the leaf springs with the Harrel clamps, Also keep an eye on them from time to time, if you hit hard (like I do) they will move around on you

Also, make sure they are not too wide, as they will rip right into the frame rail when you hit it hard.
