I have read that the letter I was not used In the stamping under the Alt. Mine is stamped V1I19DZ the car is a early 69 car made in 68 vin is 549401 and I think the Build on body is 1D or 11D
Thanks in advance Danny PS: the block is stamped with the correct 549401 same as VIN I have owned car since 11/88

Re: I have the Letter I in my date code on my DZ Block
Danny, I believe the letter "I" and number "1" were often used as the same stamp by mistake or to replace a damaged or misplaced stamp. Especially when used on blocks dated with lots of 1's in your case. I believe your DZ block is a Nov built engine, V1119DZ is Nov 19, 1968 or 69 if it was a late car.

Re: I have the Letter I in my date code on my DZ Block
Danny, On page 21 of MacNeish's book is the sister to mine and your cars. They did use I for 1....maybe so it is easier to read? These 3 cars are awful close. V=plant I1=month 19=day DZ=engine suffix (V1I19DZ) My car is 11(D) of 68. sam

Re: I have the Letter I in my date code on my DZ Block
I find the letter "I" was not used to date the Electrical components.
AC Delco did not like to use the Letter "I" on Alternators,Distributors,Starter motors,Horns & Horn Relays, etc. Rick |

Re: I have the Letter I in my date code on my DZ Block
How about trunk jack rivot heads? My car is 11(D) 1968, but the rivot head says L8. Is that Nov. or Dec. My car is an endura bumper car if that matters. It has the VE3 head that was painted like a blue color. Thanks, sam
