1) What is wrong with the period correct embossed bottom filter ??? Different
design, different color ink ???

2) How difficult / expensive to find a embossed bottom filter and THEN have it converted
to Black Stencil...........

Thanks

The red, white and blue filters are generally regarded as service units, amongst a segment of the Corvette crowd.
For sure, the embossed PF25 units came along a few months into the 69 model year. Prior to that, the PF29 was the assembly line unit.

2. Chuck, "donor" colored service replacement PF-25s with the embossed bottom sell for $250 - $350 (yes, there are often ones on eBay for far more). Converting one to the assembly line (black & white stencil) version is a DIY.

Interesting to see a purported original, assembly line only embossed PF-25 for sale on eBay, Listing # 165567657293. The seller claims "...THE ORIGINALS HAD THE BLACK AC LOGO AND WRITING ROLLED ON WITH A MACHINE AND IS SUPER THIN ( LOOKS LIKE STAMPED INK? ) SLIGHTLY TRANSLUCENT. " which I submit is inconsistent with the photos of the original PF-25 from Charlie's former 1970 Z/28 that had a clear, full impression black ink logo and lettering. The filter listed on eBay has a small dent at the top of the filter below the rim and some shelf wear (paint missing) however bidding is "enthusiastic" so it will be interesting to see what it sells for if it reaches the Seller's reserve.

Hi guy with filter for sale here. Not sure where your getting your info from but it is wrong. Filter has no dent below lip and my description is accurate on stamp being very thin on a real one. Whether it be a black or red/blue stamp when you drag your fingernail across logo you can barley perceive edge. If logo has a hard edge from being taped and sprayed or it's been clear coated it's probably counterfit and make sure you don't overpay. But don't take my word goggle and you can find some close up pictures of black and white pf25's (mostly on corvette forum) and verify they are identical to the one that is listed.

One of the photos you posted in your eBay ad appears to show a dent / damage below the lip at the top of the filter, I've highlighted the area:

I would like to learn more about these original PF-25 filters. I'm a member of the CorvetteForum however haven't been able to locate any articles on the subject and a Google search doesn't produce much either. Which articles are you referring to that discuss how the factory original PF-25s where printed? You state your PF-25 has a "super thin" or light print impression, clearly it does. You go on to state in your eBay post that all factory installed PF-25 stamps were similarly lightly printed. Charlie's, which I posted a photo of has a full print impression. Where does your information come from? The PF-25 is based on the embossed bottom PF-25 that trades for $300+ in mint NOS condition.

I would say there could be a huge counterfeit market when there is over $1000 difference between the color printed embossed bottom and black and white embossed version. Would you disagree?

For those who has been asking about availability of PF-25 (or PF-30) oil filter stencils, I received a new (improved) run so please PM or email [email protected]. Lloyd.
