Hello all,

Im Marc from Illinois, venturing over from the 4x4 world. I joined the site to help a guy from a neighboring town find his old 68 Chevelle SS. His name is Terry Quarton from Palmyra, IL. It was a 68, tropic turquoise, black interior and black vinyl top. It had factory gauges with the rolling tach. Hurst shifter, 12 bolt rear with 3.31 gears, 427ci engine. It was bought new October 14, 1967 in Illinois somewhere. He's currently in contact with his insurance company to try and locate the VIN. The car was sold in 71 or 72. He was able to keep track of it through the next few owners but they have since deceased and he thinks it ended up at a dealership near Alton, IL. I'm trying to hopefully locate this car through a large network of educated enthusiasts that would be able to spot it or "knows someone who knows someone". I understand this to be a pretty rare car. He's been restoring 60's Camaro's and has also sold a 69 Yenko Camaro a few years back. I'm simply doing the computer side of things to help him track it down.

I know the years have passed and things on it have changed most likely, but these were the details he's given me. I will try to get the VIN number up as soon as he can get it. If anyone has any leads or just to tell me I'm crazy for trying to find it, it'd help me out. Thanks a lot

Wow... that is a nice one.
The emblem on the tail pan looks to be one of the bulky SS 427 emblems.

Welcome aboard and best of luck w/ the search especially finding the Vin!
Did he buy it new or used and how do you know the exact sale date?
Was it an L78 originally and when did the 427 get added?
Thinking of Vin stamped parts, long shot but is it known where the original 396 went also was the original trans w/ the car when sold or any chance it's still around?
