Thanks for posting that Tony. The VIN for the engine and trans is 600+ numbers off the one from my car so it was likely from a car built 1 day before mine in early May. I talked with the seller today and he appears a straight shooter.

While we were talking someone put a bid on it which now means the auction will carry out to the end according to seller. Shows he has some integrity which I like. Told him I do have serious interest as the dates are perfect for my green car but we'll wait to see how the auction plays out.

If not I've already got a freshly built CE motor sitting here so not a big deal if it becomes a runaway train. Will be interesting to watch.

He sent me additional pics and the heads are mismatched with the intake being is 64/65 Corvette. Most of the peripherals are wrong but the block, trans and diff are what interests me. Hopefully it's still std bore and journals but one never knows when it's all together like it is?

Time will tell.

My car is around 1000 units off this engine and transmission combo. About as close as I would ever get but the fire scares me a little bit.

Yup...you'd never know if anything was warped or distorted from the heat until you setup to machine it or restore everything. Three cars were destroyed in the fire and if there was enough heat it can take it's toll when reaching 1600 degrees? I really wonder if the diff tubes were affected by that and would bet they'd need truing.

In my experience the best way to tell is to look for oil coking on the inside of the valve covers, pan, trans case, etc. If it's crispy you're probably in for some work.

Not that it would provide that much insight, but I'd like to see pics of the car this came out of. Just to see how much of a disaster it was before it was parted out.
