Default Inspection help in NY

I have a friend who is interested in a 70 Charger on Long Island (Baiting Hollow), NY and is asking if I know anyone who could give a car a once over for her. She will cover your time and expenses. Please let me know if someone in the area is interested and I will hook you two up. Thanks in advance.

Rick, I'm on Long Island. It's a bit of a ride, but I'm not a mopar guy. What does she need done? If it's just condition, I would take a ride and check it out. If it's checking numbers, it's not in my wheelhouse.

All she wants is a nice dependable toy to cruise around on the weekends and an occasional show. Does not care about correctness (which this car is modified anyway) but I am more concerned that she gets a car that is solid and not a smoothed over craps nest with all kinds of hidden defects. Safe, dependable and well built. Numbers mean nothing to her on this car. If that works for you I will put you in touch with her. Thanks Buddy.

That's a $20,000 car at best.

It's got manual brakes! That will not be fun to stop. The factory drum brakes in these cars were good for barely one panic stop and then they faded into nothing.

Lots of undercoating under the body which makes me wonder what's under that undercoating. You can see that the rocker to floor welded seams are swelling from internal rust.

Get some photos of the lower portions of the rear quarters where it transitions into the rear valance. That small triangular wedge-shaped body panel had never been accurately reproduced and most hacks will just weld and bondo that commonly rusted part into something sort of resembling what it should be. There should be a distinct seam between the quarter and that wedge section. If there isn't - run away.

The area in the green circle is what I am referring to.

If I was closer, I'd be happy to look at it. But even from a hundred miles away I would tell your friend to run away from this car. (and this dealer).

Ask KWHIZZ about his experience buying "New Yawk cahz" without seeing it in person! Here is his awesome build video but the first minute or so shows how badly the sellers falsely described that car. It was also a Long Island car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWC1T2KgFQI

Update: click on the video link at the bottom.

https://www.hollywoodmotorsusa.com/v...-dodge-charger

You can see exactly what I am talking about 11 seconds in, when they pan across the passenger side quarter. It is filled with bondo. There is no seam between the quarter and triangular transition panel, and the shape of the quarter is not right.

Run away!
