Angry Could be a Black Monday in Oshawa

Just talked to a friend who works for gm in Oshawa -he has heard rumors GM is making an announcement tomorrow that they are closing all operations in Oshawa-affecting 2,800 employees -hopefully it is just a rumor.Sad day if it is true.
Keep on Cruising!

There has been so many reductions in auto manufacturing in Canada.

No easy answer other than buy local. (I tried to do that and my last two GM vehicles were poor quality, now I bought two poor quality imports.... I think I will buy another 1969 Cutlass S or F85 and drive it)

I was thinking of buying a new Silverado, but spending 40-50k is foolish for me, spend that much you should get 10 years or 150k miles with no problems

It is true. The writing has been on the wall since Camaro Left in 2015. Oshawa is the last of the old guard and I am sad to see it go.

It Opened in 1907 as a manufacturing base for the Canadian McLaughlin Motor Car Company, and was purchased by General Motors 11 years later.

Converted to "Autoplex" in the 1980s after an approximate $8-billion modernization making it the king of GM’s Canadian manufacturing facilities, and in addition making it one of the biggest assembly plants in the world, having a workforce of over 40,000 employees.

They announced it today and will close Oshawa Dec 19, 2019 leaving about 2500 people out of positions.

They also announced some 12,000 more cuts to come in the USA which is really sad. Sign of the times as they say they are gearing up for electric vehicle production in the years ahead.
