My First Car
I was going through a box of old pictures and came across pictures of my first car. In 1983, I was 17 years old and purchased this 1972 Chevelle. I even convinced my father that I needed to garage it. Out came his car and in went mine! It had a small block in it, M-22 tranny and a 12 bolt posi with 4:10 gears. My friends heard the car blocks away, because of the transmission wine. As you see, the car was very old school with Cragar wheels, Pro Trac N50's, Lakewood ladder bars and the aluminum rearend cover. The car also had big block front springs and Gabriel High Jacker air shocks in the rear. Foolishly, I sold it for a 1970 442. It would be nice to see other member's first car.

Re: My First Car
I love these original photos of these cars from back in the day. I must disagree with you however, not sure why you think trading this car in on a 1970 442 was foolish idea. Those cars are pretty nice all on their own.

Re: My First Car
You're right Rick, but back then my neighborhood was crazy with wild Chevys and by me selling my Chevelle for an Oldsmobile my friends thought I was nuts. I enjoyed my 442 alot and the car ran with the best of them! It had a 472 cubic inch Scott Shafiroff Olds motor in it, Turbo 400, 3:23 12 bolt posi and it ran really strong. Out of the hole at half throttle, those L60x14's Belted TA's were roasting!

Re: My First Car
Here's my "old" '72 Nova which was converted from a 250ci inline 6 to a 402 big block in 1979-80. Don't worry...it's not around anymore
1971 402 ci, 8.5 to compression, Turbo 350 with Art Carr shift kit, Crane Fireball cam, Edelbrock Torker 2-0, 3310-2 Holley, 3:73 posi out of a totalled '69 Z/28, cheapo Blackjack headers and ran on unleaded gasoline. The last I heard, the engine was in a Pro Street car...and the body was rusting away on 9th street in Anaheim, Ca. These pictures were taken at the Street Machine Nationals West in Pomona in 1981. The time slip was from Orange County International Raceway. The license plate was CULAYTR (see you later). It was later changed to OC ONLY (OCIR) LOL

Re: My First Car
Here I am with my first car that was mine! A 1970 Nova that originally had a 307 and an automatic and drum brakes all around. The guy I bought it from used it as a race car and had a Nasty Rat motor, 4spd and a 12 bolt with 5.13 gears. That car taught me how to drive. It also had Purple Hornie Glass packs on it and that thing was obnoxious to the point I had to shut it off about a mile from my house and coast into the driveway late at night. I loved cruising Van Nuys Blvd in that car back in the mid '70's.
It ran a 13.09 @ 111 mph missing through the lights after I drove to the track with six people in the car and never adjusted tire pressure or uncorked it. First time out with a pasenger too. After a backfire through the Carb that blew the valve covers off! Sitting in the back yard waiting for Money.....to repair. |
