Default 291 Head Value

I have a pair of BBC 291 heads. I have had them for years, they are bare and have been magnafluxed. The intake side has had a very nice gasket match port job. I dug them out to look at the date codes and learned the dates are not very close to each other. One is A 10 70 and the other is F 10 9. How much does this mismatch affect the value? Whats the going price for these things?

TIA,

Jon

For someone building a hotrod motor the dates won't matter...the numbers guys will probably want them a separate pieces if they can live with the porting..I would say given the porting and mis-matched dates, maybe 300-500 each. Others may have a different idea...good luck.

I would guess about $600 to $800 for the pair. The porting hurts more that the dates. A nice ready to install set usually sells for around $1200 to $1500.

The post Jan 70 291's up until about May 70 or so seem to bring more $$ than the 69 cast 291's because they are rarer. You need to check the plug holes on both of those heads as the 69 head probably has the large plug and sometime after Jan, Feb or so they went to the peanut/tapered seat plug

Sully, all of my late 69 L78 cars have the tapered seat small plugs...I think the transition was earlier than you mentioned...my earliest casting dates are late Oct/early Nov and they ahve the peanut plugs.
