Default Rockenbach Chevrolet

I just received my document from NCRS for my 1971 ElCamino SS 454. I purchased the car in Phoenix in 1981, but it appears it was originally sold in Chicago at Rockenbach Chevrolet. Does anyone know anything about this dealer? What is the correct way to contact them in the off chance they have any records or information? This is my first attempt at tracking down a car's history.

Thanks,

Jon

I think Rockenbach was in Grayslake, IL (far NW suburb) and is now called Rock Chevrolet.

Rick Pauley - you have any insight on this as you are pretty close?

Rockenbach was sold in 2013 and changed the name to Rock Auto. There are still employees there that worked for Rockenbach, ask for John Shaw, hes' been there a while: (847) 223-8651

Next contact the Grayslake Historical Society and ask for Charlotte Renehan:

Click on the contact tab for her numbers, says they have an extensice archive there. I'm sure they have plenty of info on Rockenbach Chevrolet, looks like they opened their first garage in 1926.

Thanks for all the help! My NCRS doc shows Rockenbach as Dealer Number 460 in Zone 11.

My car could not have been in Chicago for long as it is completely rust free. Who knows how it got to Phoenix? I will try and contact this John Shaw guy. Maybe they have some records stashed somewhere?

Thanks, I'm always looking for Zone 61, Dealer 657 which is also in the Northern Illinois / Southern Wisconsin area...

I worked at a gas station down the street form Rockenbach in 74-77 bought a brand new 75 Camaro from them. My brother is friends with Mr Rockenbach's son Greg. I will see if he knows if they kept any of the old records.

My dad bought a `71 Camaro from them. He took me with and asked what my preference was between a black `71 Chevelle, and the Sunflower Yellow `71 Camaro.
Who knows that El Camino may have been there when I went.

My cars birthday is 2/4/71 so if you were there in the spring it very well may have been!
