I think the tag is good, and agree, it has never been off. No way to know, short of pulling some trim, if it was sans vinyl top from the git go.
Graeme hit on one of my pet peaves. Go deluxe, or stay standard. Goofy mix. And why add wheel well trim and the side louvers to an X77 car. I am not sure if he is implying the engine is original (says decked and numbers removed) but if it is a 618 block, not likely it would have come on that car. Car has a lot going for it. But he is asking "all correct" money for a car that is not all correct.

Unless there is proof documented during the restoration, like original paint under the weatherstrip moulding or obvious overspray, no way to know what the original exterior color was, especially given the 711 interior and no v-top on the tag.

About the only thing this car has going for it, the tt has not been removed.
Otherwise cobbled together IMO with style trim parts on a non style trim car, wrong antenna, 618 block would not had appeared in a June car. Underside gloss black, wrong leaf springs, and just after a cursory glance.

I agree with this and I think the tag was never off the body.

The tag is without doubt good... given the - - I would have done it Black with RED or BLUE stripes.
If it were being judged in the NCRS you would have to present it in PRIMER. They would give you a full paint deduct for anything EXCEPT primer unless you have documents to prove which color it left the factory. just a thought here... if the car had the studs welded for the top trim... could it have been ordered with a special color painted top and possibly stripes recieved a - - and thus still had the trim?
