"Adding salt to water makes it boil faster"

Just the opposite. Salt water has a higher boiling point so it will take longer to boil.

"Adding oil to pasta water stops it sticking"

True . . . but there an unwanted side effect . . . the sauce won't stick to the pasta.

"Sauté onion and garlic at the same time."

Not a good idea because the garlic will cook much faster then the onions leaving you with burnt garlic. Best to throw the garlic in just a few minutes before the onions are fully sauted

"To cook potatoes put them directly into boiling water."

If you do you will wind up with uncooked centers. For an evenly-cooked potato, place in cold water with some salt and use a steady heat to bring up to the boil.

"Scrambled eggs need milk."

No they don't. That leads to runny eggs with a diluted flavor. Just use eggs and give them a vigorous whisk before cooking them in hot butter.

Tomatoes need refrigerating

When you bought them, did you get them from a refrigerator? Nope. Keep tomatoes on the kitchen worktop out of direct sunlight and once ripe eat within 3-5 days. To speed up the ripening process, place the tomatoes in a paper bag with an apple, which releases ripening ethylene gas.
