Default Not a muscle car, but Help w/ value of 79 Vette??

I have the opportunity to buy a 79 vette, I would not even consider it, but it has less than 5k miles and is a stick..It is an L-82, 4-speed, White w/ oyster interior...

Does anyone know how many 4-speeds were made that year?? Thanks, Max

Very few 4 speeds... unless it has body and paint issues, $5k is not a bad price. Did you check the motor stamp? Original colors? Mind you, on these cars the carb, vacuum lines, EFE, EGR, cruise control, valve advance port, etc create great opportunities for air leaks - the car will run like absolute garbage unless all lines are installed properly and are pliable! Furthermore, inspect the exhaust manifolds, they're prone to cracking and breaking!

I think he said the Corvette has 5,000 miles not that he can buy it for $5,000.00. I think these Corvettes are under-appreciated. The L82 is a very good engine and for a Sunday afternoon cruiser, you would probably be quite pleased with it. That said, I don't think that these cars will appreciate much. Although with 5,000 miles, it's probably a Survivor and eligible for judging. All of the money is probably $15-18K. $10-13K would probably be well-bought. JMO, Ed

Worked in a Chevy store back in the late 70's early 80's...I remember delivering a few of those...one red 4 speed seems to stick in my mind. They weren't musclecars, but they ran nice...seems to me they sold new for around $12k back then.

wilma....not as worn out as Cumby

I purchased one of those brand new for 12800 back then. Yellow with T-tops. Biggest problem out the door was all four tires had a flat spot on them. Dealer put all new rubber on it for me. I was told it was from the paint process. The 85 mph speedo sucked and I was really dis-appointed with the performance, my first Corvette - and I never missed it. LoL

The M-21 was the only avaliable 4spd for the 1979 corvette. Out of the 53,807 covettes producted in 1979 about 4,062 were 4spds. Only 14,516 cars had the L82 350-225hp and 8,629 cars where painted white that year. Not super rare but still a nice car to enjoy. I have seen low mile very clean late 70's corvettes bring as much as high teens low 20's

Thanks alot guys....I was hoping it was worth a little more. I really dont have much interest in those year vettes. I thought if I could buy it and enjoy it this summer and then easily sell it after.(.and maybe even make a few $$ in the meantime), then, why not? I havent seen the car, but apparently, the car is very nice..near mint, all original and still smells new .But his price is probably just about what the car is worth. Said he "would like to get 20k". I guess the real price depends on how bad he wants to sell...???

But thanks for the education..as usual..you guys rock!!
