Default 1969 Nova SS Package original tire type?

Hi everybody, If a January built 1969 Nova with the SS package was ordered and the customer did not special order any type of tire then what was the default tire that would come on the car? The car has painted 14x7 XT wheels on it that are date code correct. I assumed it would be redlines or by that late of a build date would it have white letters and what size?

There were only two tires available...the E70 x 14 redline wide oval or an optional white-line, same size. Unless you have the original spare or paperwork it is only a guess...though the white-line tires would certainly have been a low percentage of the total. If the car has original XT's it would a safe bet to assume the original owner didn't upgrade the tires...so redlines would be a good choice.

**there were no white letter tires available on the Nova until early in the 1970's...and 1969 was the last year for redlines on the Nova and I suspect, most other models as well.

White pinstripe, red lines were optional, white letter tires were not an option until '72 IIRC.

I have the original build sheet and I do not see a code for any wheel or tire option. The car has very few options from the factory.

My March built 69 Nova has a RED LINE Uniroyal E70 X 14 spare mounted on an XT wheel in the trunk.
No mention of tire/wheel option on original window sell sheet.

The small Fisher build sheet would not have a tire or wheel option mentioned...and a window sticker would only list an optional item like; rally or ss wheels...and/or the white line tires...the stock tire and wheel combo would not be mentioned. If you look at the Nova Resource website under their list of RPO items you will see the tire info...it is obvious from the numbers that the vast majority of SS cars came with redlines...they also show that the redlines were part of the SS package...white lines were an upgrade.

http://www.novaresource.org/rpo2.htm

**if you have a GM Body or Chassis broadcast sheet (the large multi colored ones) that form may list the tires...or an original dealer invoice or order form.

The white wall tires are listed as NC, for no charge I presume, but for '69 I was under the impression that the red lines were an upgrade over the white wall - or they were simply interchangeable if the car was an SS. I like both of them!
