Default 69 SS Elky tailgate black

On my 69 SS ElCamino, I have the satin black all done on the tailgate, and now I'm ready to mask off the area to the inside of the tail lights, so I can paint that area black too. Can someone tell me how far the black should go inside the tailgate jamb area? I'm thinking around a quarter inch or so? Also, should the line be taped off, or did they just let the over spray fly?

Bill: E-mailed you a picture of my 68 SS Elky that shows how the area in question was originally masked. Hope this helps.

Shouldn't there be holes in the 1/4 panels between the gate opening and the tail lights for the 2 small pieces of trim that separates the blackout?

Not sure how well you can see it, but here's how mine was done...masked about 1/4"-1/2" inside the corner.

Bill,

To follow that perfect line with the trim from the tail light does take some effort....I`m sure yours will be close to perfect.

Dan.

Yea Joe, someone in the last 40 yrs welded up the holes and drilled other holes in places you wouldn't believe.. I lost track of how many holes I had to weld closed. It was somewhere around 35. Someone drilled holes to mount speakers behind the seats, and drilled the holes right thru to the bed. Then for some reason, those tail moldings were eliminated. Just a matter of lining things up, and re-drilling them. I have the short moldings. Just one more piece of the puzzle.
