Default 1971 LS6 Corvette for sale

Hey folks, this is a 71' LS6 Corvette I'm selling. Most of you know all about these cars, as well as the history of this particular car, with that in mind, be patient with my "ebay" description of the car. The price is 110K

For sale, 1971’ Corvette LS6 optioned, Ontario Orange coupe.

This is a Corvette with a unique history, and lots of documentation.

The 1971 Corvette RPO LS6 engine option was the last time that GM offered a solid lifter, aluminum head, big block in the Corvette. This model represented the sunset of the C3 Corvette performance era. Many Corvette enthusiasts refer to the LS6 option as ”Duntov’s last stand”, and for good reason. The 9:0 to 1 compression ratio 454, could still pound out a 425 HP rating, and Car Craft Magazine proved Duntov’s point, by belting out a 12.64 second time-slip at southern California’s OCIR dragstrip when the car was just a few weeks old. That kind of performance is no surprise if you know the LS6 shared the same open chamber aluminum heads as the legendary ZL1 and the late 69’ L88’s.

This Corvette is the first known LS6 built out of the estimated 188 produced. VIN # 10931

This Corvette was a Chevrolet “press fleet” car in 1971, hence, the early VIN #

One of the first magazines to test this Corvette, was Car & Driver magazine. A staff writer, accompanied by Zora Arkus Duntov, tested the car for a June, 19 71 write-up. A copy of this magazine goes with the car.

The last magazine to test this Corvette, was Car Craft. That test appeared in the August, 1971 issue. Ro McGonegal, Steve Collison, & Larry Shrieb bolted on headers and 4.56 gears to come up with an amazing 12.64 @ 114mph time-slip. They continued to test it, before they over-revved it, and dropped the bottom end on the track. These events are all covered in the article. A copy of this magazine goes with the car. Due to this documented event, the car has a correct cast # 3963512, date coded 4/71, “CE” replacement block. The car does retain the 4.56 gearing and Koni shocks installed by the Car Craft gang.

A California car, except for the last 5years, where it has resided in my climate controlled storage area.

The order copy, door sticker, and trim tag are all in good shape

I have registrations from each year the car was registered, including the first Calif. registration issued on 08/03/71, which lists a “date first sold” of 06/22/71.
Note: This Corvette’s VIN # (10931) denotes an early March build date, which leaves an approximate 3 month window for the magazine writers to complete their tests and articles in time for the Car and Driver June 71’ issue and the Car Craft August 71’ issue. This also leaves time for the service replacement block to be installed before the first owner’s purchase of the car on June 22nd, 1971.

According to the order copy, the car was built with the following options;
417 interior (saddle vinyl)
LS6 (454 425hp)
GV5 (3.36 rear axle)
PU9 ((F70x15 white letter tires)
U69 (AM/FM pushbutton)
U79 (Stereo radio) – not working
A31 (electric windows)
C50 (rear window defroster)
J50 (power brakes)
N37 (tilt –telescopic steering wheel)
N40 (power steering)
P02 (deluxe wheelcovers)…. According to Warren Freidrich, one of the other magazines that tested the car, photographed it with the P02’s installed. Warren thinks that magazine may have been Sports Car Graphic or Car Life. In my copies of Car & Driver, and Car Craft, the car is shown with trim rings and center caps. This fact becomes noteworthy as you read the Car & Driver article. In that article, Duntov said he disliked the P02’s because they added 26lbs of extra weight to the cars, while making it impossible to properly balance the wheels. I suspect that Duntov may have switched hubcaps or tires and wheels, with the LT1 car (with PO2’s) that he is pictured in, for the Car and Driver story. It still has the trim ring and centers today.

35, 850 mi.

In addition to Steves post. This June at Bloomington Gold Corvettes, another Ontario orange LS6 coupe with a partial window invoice and dealer order form as documentation was bid to 130K and did not meet reserve. This car had several incorrect items in the engine bay.
