from the pictures, it looks like someone converted it to a non AC car. Its done quite often. I want to see the build sheet of the window sticker.. If you have proof I admit defeat.

My first car was a 87 SS with the same body color and interior. I miss that car so much!

I sold those cars new. AC (C60) was definitely an option and not part of the SS package. And hey, if someone wants an almost new, loaded pristine example, I have a maroon one for sale!

I tracked down the original owner/builder yesterday. Great guy, sent him a few current pics of the car and he shared a few details, cars are fun but the stories and the people make them special.

"Thank you very much for the photo's it was a real trip down memory lane.
I drove that car from the dealership about 3 miles away before we took it
apart and put it back together. I had all the drive train and motor done
before the car came in. I built a motor test stand that you could roll around
with a fuel tank, radiator, battery, gauges etc. Bolt the motor up, run it in
a little, check for leaks, re-torque the heads do the valves etc. That way there
were no surprises when we put it in the car. I also remember that we had to do some
work with the heater core box for valve cover clearance.
I also think now we may have done some work with the shift indicator, I know I was
Really trying to keep the car as stock looking as possible.
I showed the photos to a my good friend, he and I were always building something
together so he was really happy to see them too.
If you ever get a video of the old girl going down the track we would love to see it."

C41 is the Heater only/non A/C RPO code - same as on Camaro & Firebird of that generation. $805 savings off the sticker on my 91 1LE Formula.
