I do have one... Here is a 1969 # matched Z28 that we found a few years back and I forgot I had these pictures. It looks like the body was going to be an automatic car but the problem was noticed and these actions were taken. Kinda funny they only took out one of the screws and decided just to bend the cover over... Here you go and enjoy. Mark

I was talking to the Guy that was painting the outside of my shop office today and he told me of a friend of his that bought a 1968 Impala 396 new. After driving the tires off of it for a few years he had to rebuild the motor. Turned out to be a 427. Being the original owner, he bought and the car was badged as a 396 but would out run every thing around. Now we know why. Has anyone heard of this sort of thing before?

I know a guy who ordered a 66 Impala from Penske Chevrolet. I forget is he said it was a 396 or 427, but it was also a 4 speed car and ordered it with the specific gears he wanted and a posi.

After taking delivery and having fun with it that weekend, he quickly realized the rear in the car was not what he specified. Took it back and had Roger himself look at the car. Story went Roger asked someone to bring him a floor jack and he spun it right there. No posi and wrong gears. He got the right ones dealer installed!

Don't know if the mistake was a factory one, or if the dealer didn't order the car right.

I know a guy who ordered a band new 68 Z/28. On the order sheet he chose code U for Lemans Blue, but when the car was delivered it was Sequoia Green (code V).

I have spoken to the original owner of our 68 L78 Nova several times and he has told me he ordered the car with a black bucket seat interior and it came in Ivy Gold with a bench. He ended up keeping the car and had the dealer install some performance gauges, headers, etc. the factory 8-track came in a box in the trunk for dealer install...

Not a factory mistake, but interesting nonetheless. When I first got into the hobby,I pumped gas at a local gas station where the mechaic was a GM dealer mechanic in the mid to late 60's.He was telling me how a customer came in with a 65 vette with a blown up 425hp 396,and service replacemnts for those engines were hard to find,so they threw in a 425 hp 427 and didnt bother to tell him about it.I bet that one made for a zippy combination.

Just thought of another one...

Sammy was a factory mistake...but all the defects were covered under warranty

He is out of warranty now, so he doesn't push things too hard...you have to be careful with those older engines
