All the original paint cars I've done were painted factory with the decklids (and doors) already installed, because when I remove them not only is there no paint what so ever on the mounting face of the hinges, there is also no paint on the decklid at all where the hinges mount. that's why the bolts are also painted and have no witness marks from tools. I see this both with Ford and GM.
Also the back leading edge of the inner structure of the decklids on all the original paint cars I've restored, or own, have practically no paint there, just red oxide. Because the decklids are installed before paint, and it's practically impossible to get the paint gun pointed rearward and upward to cover that area when the decklid is opened. Matter of fact the 72 Formula I'm restoring now was that way.

My 69 Z still sports some of it's original striping in the jamb area as well as the cowl (12D Norwood) Correct me here but I'm pretty sure at the factory, when it comes to a 1st gen Z, the stripes are done with the hood and decklid in place.

Here is the other side. I am pretty sure the car was never painted or they would have done the front stripes where the carb fire burnt the hood stripe. I can check with the original owner. I did think it was weird how it looks to have a taped area.
This is a non spoiler car also. If the decklid was on the car during stripes, which it about had to be to get gaps and stripes to line up, they would have had to have taped off the back of the car somehow

Totally correct. Decklids were installed before paint. Brain fart.
But again, weatherstrip after paint and I've never seen overspray there.
