assembly manual measurements
Can some one tell me if the measurements for drilling holes for moldings in the assembly manuals are in inches or milimeters? On the old cars and trucks, 67-69 camaro and chevy trucks. And if i use a digital tape measure will it be accurate?

Re: assembly manual measurements
The MM change over started many years ago, like more than 10 years ago.,is slowly evolving, and getting worse.

Re: assembly manual measurements
I would not use any assembly manual dimensions for anything. I once used the 69 manual, to lay out the holes for the Camaro emblem on both fenders on a piece of paper. Then I made a template off an original emblem to precisely locate the pins, and overlaid it over the holes. One side had the emblem slightly rising, and the other side had the emblem slightly dropping.
I'd make a template with pin locations on a piece of poster board (I used a cereal box) tape it to the fender, and step back 10 feet, to look at it. Adjust until you like it, and drill pilot holes. Then drill or file with a jewelers file until it fits. |

Re: assembly manual measurements
That is interesting that the factory assembly measurements would be off. But i have heard some people say the emblem templates that restoration parts sell are off or heard that the pins on some reproduction emblems are not dead on compared to originals.
P.j. , i just love working on some gm cars or trucks that have a mix of standard and metric.

Re: assembly manual measurements
That's true about differences between repop and original badges. In the case I cited, I overlaid OEM badges over the AIM layout. I later installed newer NOS badges on my car, but I never really compared the older originals to later NOS.
