Making Gaskets the Fun Way
My brother had a leaking brake master cylinder lid gasket on his 69 Camaro race car so instead of making a trip to the store, he programmed a laser cutter in his shop (industrial laser engraving work is their business) and cut one out. I think it's pretty cool process to watch.

Here is how the laser makes a logo, in this case a Shelby Cobra head.

Ppfffffllpp.....that’s amature work. I could do the exact same thing with an Exact-O knife and a straight edge. Sure it might not be exactly the right size, the curved sections may be off a little resulting in leaks, and let’s not forget the occasional slipping when the blade catches a soft spot in the material resulting in slicing my hand open which just happened to be downstream of the blade, and then when the better idea to use tin snips comes into play the real accuracy is thrown into oblivion.
So yeah, like I said, how much does your brother charge for this!? Cool stuff! Cheers Dave |

That's pretty much how I do it too! I really don't know their rate structure but if you are interested in having something done send me a PM and I'll hook you up. Being in Indy they mark a lot of race car parts for life cycle tracking and such so he loves doing car jobs. The Shelby logos on the rotors is for his personal car. You probably need some Ferrari logos...... |
